  1. I have stumbeled upon a wakizashi at a grage sale that being sold as the owner had passed away. The fittings are gone except for the menuki and two piece gold foil habaki. The blade is 17 3/4" long in good shape with staining. The mei is something I have not seen in any I have owned so to the books I went and think this say's : ? Omi no Kami Fujiwara Tsugu Hiro. Any help if this is right and what style of hamon would br found in his works. This blade has O choji and the blade looks to be early koto by design. Thank you for any help Regards Brian D
  2. I will try to get some good photos of this blade. I am taking to the Chicago shinsa just to see what it turns out to be. As the blade is in perfect condition, what threw me for it to in Yamato den is that it did not fit the hamon or the boshi of very early sowrd. This sword has more Mino influence in that the hamon has very nice chijo with ashi and a O-maru boshi. The nakago is long and has a slender taper with 3 ana that are seperated a good distance apart. Thank you for all your help in this and look forward to seeing some of you at the token Kai as I will be set up. Regards Brian Dreier
  3. Thank you very much I was hoping it would translate to a writing we recieved with the katana. It states " A sword named Tegaki-Hoei made in Yamato district this is one of the finest works of the Teiji era (680 years before) by Hoei the 2nd generation The 15th november, Showa 20th your's truley N.Chikue This is written in english with US military papers that came with the sword from a gentleman who served in WW2. Any Idea what this letter is saying? As I can not find any Tagaki or Hoei. Brian
  4. Hello all I am asking if anyone may be able to read this paper that came with a katana that was purchased from a estate sale. As I do not know if has any help identifying the maker or school. The nakago has no mei with 3 mekugi ana and is very long and slender. Thank for any information. Regards Brian Dreier
  5. I did not think it was correct to the Nidai Kanesada as well do to some of the kanji stroke. Is this of a different generation or Gimei? Brian
  6. Hello I am asking for help with translating this mei, I believe it to be a Kanesada. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

  9. Hello All I am writing to ask why it seems that all newer swords and production models have brass habaki, but all to many old swords have copper and gold foil overlay. Is the copper habaki weak compared to the brass? Regards Brian Dreier
