  8. I think its the bottom of tang where mei has been rolled over. More often looks like this

    Unusual Tsuba

    Hi John, thanks for making the effort to post your findings. This will give me another avenue to research. I think this is what makes the NMB so good, people willing to make the effort to help others. Also thank you Mauro one more thing i have learned.
  11. Hi, i showed this kyo kenjo tsuba a few months ago. The whole face, front and back apart from the seppa have cross hatching. Sorry for the photo.

  14. Not before shakudo was applied as they then would not appear in the foil. Maybe when freshly polished. Also think it must be a group as one man would not have so many swords worked on at the same time to need to do this. Military sounds right.

    Shibuichi Tsuba

    Hi John. Your tsuba looks a lot different to the picture in the catalogue, although definitely the same piece it appears dark grey, almost black in there picture. Would be better to see in hand. I think the red-brown colour comes from the more volatile elements having oxidised leaving behind a copper rich surface. For your interest please look up. (in tosogu what shibuichi looked like when it was new 01sep 2015). Please let me know what you think, we are both here to learn. Best regards Peter.

    Shibuichi Tsuba

    I have never seen brown shibuichi. Sentoku is brown-orange. Shibuichi is silver grey to dark grey ?
