    New tsuba from Ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/303395121758?_trksid=p2471758.m4704 I just won this auction; it had a nice sabi feel to it so i went for it. As I am a non tsuba expert, can you please share your thoughts on this, help with signature, age, school? It looks ko or sue tosho made to my non expert opinion. Thanks....
  3. Then she said " The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" ....so get started, bub!"
  4. How about some photos?
  5. I do not think showato; rather traditionally made older blade, Taisho or shinshinto. Surprised it is mumei.
  6. Looks like it has the possibility of being an older Mino blade, but it is hard to tell in the state of polish. I do see activity that is interesting in the ha.
  7. I do not see any reason why it shouldn't be polished, other than the cost; what I see of it suggests it would come out decently, without fatal flaws.
  8. Is the mei in gold lacquer, gold, or paint pen? Kaneuji is a big name.... even if gimei and in the bad state of polish, it seems to have some promise.
  9. Try looking at Izumo no Kami Kunisada school, Kanbun Shinto.
  10. Mushrooms?
  11. Didn't buy it from samurai monkey, did you? Looks very questionable.
  12. .....
  13. Looks gimei and amateur polished (just kidding.....or am I )
  14. Cast, made on a Tuesday at 4 pm end of shift
  15. Something for everybody....
  16. I won't speak to the veracity of the mei as i do not have time to research it; the blade is heavily pitted and the hakobore require some heavy reshaping....not a job for anyone other than an expert. ($$$$$) It might be salvageable; is it financially worth it....roll the dice.
  17. I think Jean means that he has a papered tanto by a smith not known to have made tanto....apparently unicorns are occasionally sighted.
  18. Here is hoping the auction house withdraws the yari from auction and resells it to the original bid winner at the same price he originally paid.
  19. Should be a good candidate for shinsa indeed; there is plenty of activity to see, in a nice old sword.
  20. http://www.bushidojapaneseswords.com/nbthk-shinsa-submission.html Bob Benson also provides services as noted in this link.
  21. A proper design will take the balance into account, in my opinion
  22. My question was theoretical; I agree with Lev, but am happy to let the engineers fight it out....us blade smiths will keep making blades
  23. If this is true, why were they done at all?
  24. 70 degrees for us backward Yanks
  25. I can do something in Hawaiian Koa wood within your budget, Kathleen; pm me if interested in discussing it.
