  2. Hello, Just picked up this Navy Dirk but feel it may not be authentic because of the 'Japan Sword' marking on the underside of the cross guard - see images below. Any feedback would be very helpful Thanks, John
  3. Thanks for the useful info fellas. John

  9. Hi, Can anyone translate this Mei for me. Much appreciated. Thanks
  10. Thanks Steve, So the correct maker of this piece would be 'Fujiwara Masahiro'?
  11. Thanks for all responses. I feel more confident puchasing the piece now. Initially the fittings looked too new but have obviously been well preserved.
  12. Any more luck deciphering this MEI? If its is a Fujiwara Masahiro product what would be the approximate date it was made? Thanks again
  13. Heres a larger pic. Thanks for your help
  14. Hello, I have the opportunity of puchasing this sword. Can someone help me translate and date the MEI. Also an approximate value on the piece would be greatly appreciated. I have been told it is in mint condition with mint blade. Thanks alot
  15. Thoughts this piece. The Tsuba looks irregular to me. Can anyone translate the mei. Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-WW2-Japane ... dZViewItem
  16. Heres another Samurai Bronze: http://cgi.ebay.com/SUPERB-C1880-SIGNED ... dZViewItem
  17. Thanks fellas. I too had my doubts about the hamon. It looks too embellished almost like a fantasy blade. The colours on the fittings also don't look right to the eye, compared with genuine pieces I've seen. Too fresh and again embellished.
  18. What do you think of this piece: Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/WW2-Japanese-Army-S ... dZViewItem
  19. Hi Simon, Thanks. It's a very nice sword. I generally collect German WW2 blades and was surprised at the size and quality of this sword. I think I'm hooked. Next on the list is a Kai Gunto, then who knows what!! The blade is in beautiful condition, in full period polish retaining a very strong oil temper line, and is free from any chips, nicks or damage. I have been advised that the maker mark (mei) on the blade is Ishihara Yoshisada, registered as one of Seki sword smiths for making Showa military swords on Oct. 25th, 1939. Here is the link to that thread: http://militaria.co.za/nihontomessagebo ... .php?t=591 Any additional info you may heave on the maker would be great (i.e quality level..etc.).
  20. Sword and Knot
  21. I received the tassel today, its looks great. Now I just have to wait for the sword. Simon I'll post a pic of the ensemble when I get the sword.
  22. Thanks again espec. Simon. I am pretty confident the piece is original it was actually the brightness of the colours that made me skeptical. This is going to look great on my new shin gunto
  23. Thanks fellas. Its made from silk which I believe is correct.
  24. Is this WW 2 Japanese army officer's Sword Tassel/Knot original? Thanks for your help, John
