Just curious how Menuki are attached to the Tsuka when there is no wrapping. Are they glued on or made differently ?

I know this is a not a true nihonto but I could really use some help.... I am considering selling a Paul Chen sword to put towards a true nihonto and it would be nice to identify the mei and other marks for buyers. I have had it around four years and always wondered what it says. Can someone tell what this mei reads ? Also, what do the other markings indicate ? Thanks in advance, Pez

FYI - The http://tsuba.jyuluck-do.com links at the start of this post also sells under the eBay ID MOEYODRAGONS His name is Hiroyuki Shimoda if anyone knows anything more about his stuff. I have a nice Kozuka from him and he was very helpfull. Pez

Thanks for the info... I have noticed over time that you hardly ever see seppa shown in photos or mentioned in articles, etc.. Just wondered if they are evaluated or considered in any way by collectors ? I am going to do some back tracking as I thought I had read somewhere that one seppa on a certain side of the tsuba was more common on a certain mounting ?? I'll see if I can find where I read it... After looking at this sword, another new guy wants to know: Are seppa more or less common on true nihonto ? Also, is the existence of two seppa versus one indicative of anything ? Thanks, Pez

Hi all, I am new to the forum but have been around eBay for several loops around the local star. Every hundred or so eBay transactions you run into a guy/gal who "just isn't worth it". Trust me, this was one of those times. I didn't want my first posting on this forum to stir up poop. How much does damage to the lacquer of a saya detract from the overall value of a blade and mounting? While cleaning a blade a couple of years ago, I accidenatly nicked the saya. Trying to decide if I should get it repaired or leave it as a reminder. I guess it will only matter to someone else if I sell it. What are your thoughts ?

This doesn't really fall into the Samurai category but you can't go wrong with Ikiru directed by Akira Kurosawa. There but for the grace of (insert religion) go I !!! Naturally I would have to vote for The Seven Samurai as the best samurai film but Ikiru may change you or at least wake you up. Ninja Scroll is well done if Anime is your thing and you're over 18.... (sorry parents) -
