I rather fancy Mrs. John Lennon( not her singing if you call it that )as a maiden .................. what do you think ? p.s. in case the censors are trying to determine if this is off topic. I can assure you it's not, as a matter of fact, it's quite " clever ". Milt
  2. Quote: "The walls are very thick which is an indication of low quality" seems a bit absolute ...I'd suggest rather the opposite is more often true. It would seem to me that the use of thicker material would mean the manufacturing process would take longer and that the material cost would be greater. ................................................................................ that's what i thought , granted some really old ones ( as in Ezo )are thin ( and so'd some newer ones too) . milt
  3. looks like a nice " Choshu-ish " tsuba, is it signed ? milt
  4. an awkward question ............. but how long is it ? Reason I asked ; I noticed two spots where , may be, there were two pins ? Like it was converted to those tobasco pouch clasp ? I always wonder about the red " ink " marks too. Nice set but details could have been better. milt
  5. that's laying it on a bit thick. Secret Agent Man................. Ford, another question. Since ( in the case of my koz ) the " silver fill " has patinated to almost same patina as the underlying shibuchi, should i " polish " the decorative motif " to make it stand out ? That can't be the original intent of the maker ( to make the decoration disappear ), right ? milt

  11. lots of good deals now, things are not " moving ". I bought from this seller before, he's legit. milt
  12. " Shinsa mills at shows can miss such cracks " unless my advancing age leads me to mis-read the seal on the NTHK paper, I believe THE old Yoshikawa sensei passed the sword. I wouldn't call NTHK a " shinsa mill " under his watch . milt
  13. Hirotoshi but it doesn't match the sample mei in Kinko Meikan ( new ed ), page 316 milt
  14. whoever was that *74, he/she out-sniped me Yes, due to MAC, things are selling " cheap ". Welcome to the world of deflation where cash is king. milt

  16. " Making good shibuichi with visible grain ( nashiji ) is an entirely different matter...that really is an art. " Ford, I have a shibuchi koz with grass , basket and iris design. I thought it's done in the kaga style but upon hands on exam, the design appears to to part of the metal, i.e. I don't see any " seams " of the inlay...... may be you can comment on the technique ? milt
  17. Barry, I ain't gonna take no freakin' test !! geez....... it hurts the brain, man. In the military, there's such a rule call " KISS " ( even though they preach but don't practice ) 1. all moderators have to make MANDATORY monetary donation........ since they get to weld thier power over the masses ( that's the rest of us ) 2. members can make donations ( $ or goods ) at their free will with no string attached as long as it's not for beer party for the moderators . 3. run a simple auction on donated goods from members with minimal bids ( gotta cover those shipping charges ) 4. no test of any sort. milt milt
  18. Brian, you worry too much, you are acting like an old woman ( and single at that )........ my apology to members of the fairer sex/gender, believe me I am being nice to Brian, I could have called him an old man ( and single at that ). milt
  19. here's another way to squeeze $ for good cause........ viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4236&p=32710#p32710 milt
  20. " the fact that most items are still with the donators, and the fact that I am not sure how they would feel about their items being sold instead of donated would go down with them " 1. why can't the donors send pics , info of item to one designated despot /organiser of auction ? 2. once item is donated, the ownership transferred to the Message Board, it's like you give a dollar to the homeless person, it's none of your freakin' business how the " new owner of the dollar " uses that dollar, yes ? ( at this point I have another excellent political joke/observation but it won't pass censor ) 3. Donations are made freely and should have no string attached.......... if they demand " pre-condition ", personally i would tell them to go take a hike. Milt
  21. Looks like one to release back into the wild (ie. ebay). well, pete, I am not one who's too hang up on fatal flaw as long as it's not distracting from the " beauty " of the items ( at this point I have a good anology but it won't pass censor ). Since the sword , in my possession, will not be used in anger or otherwise. There's no chance it'll endanger me should I use it and it breaks . I have been known to have swords polished even when I know there's hagiri ( remember my world's most beautiful tsunagi ? ). So the question should really be......... can the polisher " grind " away the opening ( less than 1mm along the edge ) or just leave that area alone while polishing the rest ? milt
  22. " and some fun inbetween " that is debatable anyway, why not have all the donated items be put on an auction with proceeds go directly towards the maintainance of the web site ? All sealed bids till the ending time. Bids to be submitted via PM to one e-mail address so there's an e-mail trail when " dispute " comes up regarding who holds the high bid at what date/time. milt
  23. in my opinion, it's nothing special to lose sleep over. p.s. Ted's sale is better......... These tsuba: http://www.legacyswords.com/fs_ant_tsuba12.htm NMB Members Price: $ 350.00 http://www.legacyswords.com/fs_ant_tsuba14.htm NMB Members Price: $ 300.00 http://www.legacyswords.com/fs_ant_tsuba2.htm NMB Members Price: $325.00 milt
  24. here's another example of opening grain along the ha. The sword has masame hada. worth a polish ? the longitudinal hairline " ware " is less than 1mm from the cutting edge. p.s. one of those swords I bought years ago that's waiting for closure/polish milt
  25. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3711 after the " crash " of the server, Nobody san's rendition of the first kanji became " unreadable "....... milt
