Thank you. I see no evidence of anything else having been attached to it but I'm going to leave it as found. Best, Rob

Thank you very much.. I had never seen the ring before but obviously I'm far from knowledgeable in this area. Best, Rob

Recent Purchase With Bad Feeling - Help Please
Joefriday22 replied to Joefriday22's topic in Military Swords of Japan
This one came from a 94 year old WW2 vet...German Paratrooper. He has quite a collection of stuff that he has picked up since moving to the US many years ago. He suspected that it was not right and I was pretty sure it wasn't. I did get two others from him that are legit so all is good. He has several more in the wood storage scabbards. I probably should have grabbed one of those instead. -
Hello again, I purchased this sword from the same man as the other. I noticed that it's shorter than the other and the scabbard has a ring toward the bottom. I know that the tassels are not original but I wonder if these may have been brought back by the same guy and added by him later. Any comments or information would be most appreciated. Thank you very much. Best, Rob

Ha.. Don't let my 21 post here fool you.. I'm just not a Japanese sword expert. Basically I was buying another item from the man in addition to the other Japanese swords. He wouldn't come down on the price of the other item so I got him to throw this sword in the deal. -
Thank you very much.. Best, Rob

Hello sirs, Hopefully I did a little better with this one. Any thoughts or information would be most appreciated. Best, Rob

Thank you very much sirs. I was 99.9% sure it was fake so I paid very little for it. Momentarily I will post pictures of the other two and I hope to hear different comments. Sorry for the fair pictures. I am away from home on vacation so improvising. Best, Rob -
Hello, I recently purchased this sword and I knew I was taking a chance on it. I also purchased two more swords from the same man which I am confident are correct. I will post pictures of those for your expert opinions later. Any thoughts or information on this item would be most appreciated. Thank you very much. Best, Rob

Hello, I have an opportunity to purchase this item and I would like to know the value or fair price to offer. Any informatioin would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Rob

Thank you very much for the information Sir. I figured that there was little collector value in this piece but plan to keep all of the items together anyway. Here are a few of the other items that came with this piece. Best, Rob

Hello, I am unfortunately very uneducated when it comes to this sort of item. Although I have several Japanese swords, bayonets, pistols, etc I am not well versed in the field. This item came to me from the son of a WW2 Navy SEABEE. Along with this item came numerous other Japanese bring-backs so I assume that this too is Japanese. There are no markings that I can find. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much, Rob

Thank you very much George and Mark. This sword was brought into an antique store yesterday while I was talking to the store owner. The seller sold it to the store for $250 and I bought it for $400. The seller stated that his father was in the US Army during the war and brought it back from the Philippines but the store owner did not get any information on his father. What a shame. Thank you again, Rob

That is great information. Thank you very much for taking the time to find the information and reply to me. Any idea what year the sword was manufactured? Best regards, Rob

Hello, I was at a local antique store today when a man walked in with this item. The store bought it and I bought it from the store minutes later. Can anyone tell me when it was made? I see no makers marks on it. The serial number on the blade and scabbard match. The blade has some staining but no rust. Approximate value? Thank you very much for any information. Rob

Hi Gywn, I can only tell you that my sword does not appear to have a hamon or if so it is very faint. Also the grip on mine could be plastic as well but I can't tell for sure. Rob -

Thank you very much guys. Jo Jo. Sounds like you've got an awesome group and from a family member to boot. In reading his records it appears that he served at New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Bouganville, Leyte, Soloman and Cebu Islands. There are several Forts in the US listed and several other overseas areas but I can't read the writing. Under "Engagements" is listed Bougainville April 9, 1944-Jan 1945, Capul Jan-Feb 1945,Samar Feb-Mar 1945, and Cebu Island from March - March 29, 1945 (when he was injured). Interesting reading about the Americal Division in WW2 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23rd_Infan ... ns_summary Here are some more items from the group. And I've got plenty more. I was trying to stick to the sword only since I know this is a sword forum but it seems that some are interested in seeing some of these other items as well. Thank you all again for the information and kind comments. Rob -

Thank you very much KM. Yes, I noticed the mispelled Cebu the first time I read the telegram. I have a lot more paperwork with this group and it's very interesting to read. Rob -

Aahh, thank you for the education Sir. I did OK on the price then but to me having the paperwork and history to go with it makes it more desireable to me. I have spoken with the son who sold the items and he has provided me with info on his father regarding his service, injuries, and stories behind the above items. Pretty interesting and great fun to research. Thank you again, Rob PS. Just a little more to look at:
