  1. Curran, perhaps you don't know that when you submit and PASS an item for Juyo shinsa, the Tokubetsu Hozon or (old way prior to a few years ago) Hozon certificate is not returned. The Hikozo (not Hirata) is now in for Tokubetsu Juyo this year. The only ones that I remember that didn't pass, are maybe the 2 Kanshiro. So when I go to Japan next month, I will ask my friend on your behalf for evidence of Hozon during those years, forgive me if I am 1 year off! I see so many items, I cannot remember when they were papered.
  2. Sorry to be so late on this topic, but I was just made aware of this string. For Curran, here is some evidence for you. People always seem to decide things without all the facts. The following pieces that I will post all past Hozon and Tokubetsu Hozon in the year questioned. Some also passed Juyo that same year and last year as well. They are obviously Higo of quality, and I posted partial pics so that everyone can understand the quality level needed for such calls. 1- Nishigaki Kanshiro 2-Nishigaki Kanshiro 3- Hayashi Shigemitsu 4-Hirata Hikozo 5-Kamiyoshi Rakuju (or Fukunobu) I forgot. 6-Rakuju 7-Hayashi Matashichi. I hope this is helpful for the collectors. I have nothing to do with shinsa, but yes, you can ask the NBTHK judges if you travel to Japan if you are a member for an explanation of a certificate. I have not seen the items that have been talked about in prior parts of this thread, but I must say that they should be seen in hand if any reliable ideas are to be given. I am only posting these items so one can see that high level attributions were given the year in question 2013,2014,2015. Back to work, and forgive me if I do not pay further attention to this thread. I have contributed something of value I believe. Mike
  3. A few pics for those that can't attend. The exhibition has been getting quite some good feedback and interest in Japanese swords. Just for our club, many new people are interested in coming. Its has been a while since something like this has been done to promote the art of Japanese sword collecting. The result has been nice, not negative at all. I spent time walking the exhibit just as a visiting "patron" and listened to the nice comments that were made. I also have given 3 lectures for the display, and they were well received from what we could see.
  4. Made by yukinobu, this is an interesting piece for study. More info is on our site, as we just did some updating. enjoy!

  9. To All, I am happy to announce the new sword exhibit to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art starting this November. This is why I have been out of touch for a while, it was a big secret as they wanted it to be a surprise. It will run at the same time as the great armor collection from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier and Mueller collection. Brian can you keep this on the upper portion for a little while? I hope that this will bring more interest and good will to the field of Japanese swords, it is nice to see some positive news rather than negativity. And yes there will be a publication at a special price of around $20 for nmb members to be announced at a later date (it is at the printers now). Mike
  10. Just wanted to say thank you to all that visited our table. I hope that you all enjoyed our blades, this year we showed many Soshu blades for sale and study. For a while we even put the Tokugawa Shogun owned Sadamune on the table for all to study as well as the Shintogo and Yukimitsu. It was a great show for study and hats off to Fred and Mike for doing what they always do!
  11. Thanks Brian, I would like to add that this is an exhibition only, there are no sales items, just for cultural education and for enjoyment. Mike

As far as I know, and have been told, this mei is very rare being done in zogan. I have never seen one before, and I have bought alot of Ikkin in the past years. Very interesting and well done mei. I will take pics later, been busy with a big project and taking care of my son. BTY I hope Im not crossing any lines, but we just put up a very nice tenryushi masataka with akikusui hamon and nmb members can get a special discount

    interesting mei

Couldn't find the Ikkin thread, so I just put this mei here, very interesting!
  17. I do not post such news lightly, but people should be very careful and deal only with well established shops - not discounters advertising for business on ebay. To me that is scary, I have been sending items to Japan for resatoration and shinsa for over 30+ years, and have dealt with only very reputable people that have been establsihed for generations, or have direct ties to the NBTHK. This forum can provide good information, so beginners should ask BEFORE doing anything. According to my news, he is no longer a member of the Zentosho, and is banned from many dealer events. Please if you have any blades with him, try to contact him or his partner and check . That is all I am saying. Good Luck!
  18. my friend said he ran away with many peoples sword.
  19. If you have done business with this person, please check to see if he still has your blades. I have heard some disturbing news about him recently and my friends friend has a blade with him. But he cannot contact him.
