That definitely helps clear things up a bit for me.I'll break out the calipers and take a measure! So Would it be possible that the mei was added ? The first charceter is very legible but the second is all but gone... But it would be strange to fake either of those smiths right? Not sure ifbthis helps but the sword feels slender and on the slight side kind of like a tomoshige Wak I have noting like the kaneyasu I posted last..It also seems small for a katana more like a very large Wakizashi bur I assume it is just sized for a a smaller stature person?sorry for all the questions lol..

Hi Chris, So what would be the best way to determine the age for sure? The sori measures 1.5 cm and is about a 1/3 of the way up the blade. It measures 3.0 cm at the hamachi and 1.85 cm at yokote. The nagako is 14 cm and nagasa of 65 cm.....I confused most of the older blades I've been reading about from muromachi era fit this shape and proportions. Was this style revived in the shinto era.I also was reading about the hada changing to masame in the shinoji.I'm so confused with this.... could someone clarify it a little for me?I was also wondering what is the best way to determine if a sword is definitely tired and does this one look to be?

So is it possible that the blade is late nanbokucho-early murimachi.?? The sugata seems to fit and the possible Kunitsugu would be from the same era? I'm nor sure this is the correct train of thought to determine this but I have recieved many responses to this post..Anyone able to advise me on this Thanks

Hey thanks, So is this a shinto smith? Any other thoughts about the quality of the blade ect??
-
Looking to soak up some knowledge from whomever want's to put their two cents in....I'm guessing it's late muromachi or kanbun (it's just over 65.5cm).. . just a very slightly educated guess lol..!!

Hey thanks grey, I almost didn't post this figured I'd get scolded again for posting an obvious question lol... Does it look to be a Shinto piece?

Hi am I reading this correctly as Kuni..... I cant make out much of second char. until It's in hand.I was also wondering as to why it is above both mekugi anna??Was it added later or is this common?Any information that can be learned from the Pictures would be of great help. Thanks in advance...

Thank you very much Morita San..Also to "nobody" for trying to lead men in the right direction.I still don't understand why members feel it's "lazy" ect.to ask for help which is so easy for some to give.If any person, any time or place were to ask me to help then read a word in English my first language; I would feel it would be lazy of me not to help... Maybe us New Yorkers are just that way.. Lol so far the responses were very polite and helpful unlike last time I had asked for some help. So thanks all for your time especially Morita San!!

I decided to remove the inner wooden part of the WWII gunto sayaa which I have learned houses a mutsu no kami kaneyasu katana,to clean it out and remove the wood dust and splinters to find this writing on it... Does anyone know the significance and is it common??

Erick,Jean and Keith Thanks for the great info....I guess the board has saved me some money once again!I'll check out the link you posted Jean for some comparison..I'll post some addt'l pictures later, but probably a mute issue since it seemes it's nothing special and I don't think the seller is going to drop the price to what is suggested. But I'll post more pictures so I can learn from you guys.

I'm really considering buying this one but I'm not sure what to offer?? He's looking for 2500.00I would like to get it for less...He also has a forged rope cutter arrow tip and quiver with signed arrow.I have no idea what the arrow tip and rest are worth either!

Thanks Mark....Also Do you know if naginata are not as popular for collecting because of their being less available,or because the are not generally forged to the same standards as other nihonto?
-
Hi, I know very little if anything about the value of naginata and their mounts? Can anyone give me an Idea Of what would be a good price for this or one or a similar one??Not sure how to date these as well it's unsigned and seller thinks it's from the 1400's.It has one or two ware I could see in the pics. thanks

Hi,does anyone know if this marking means anything?? I noticed before but now it looks more like a deliberate rubbed in mark.So is it a character or nothing intentional?

Help with Sword identifacation
Cello replied to OzzManG149's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I would have to say from the packing and art work on the saya Chineese or modern repro...maybe?? Not enough information from the pictures. -
Hey thanks Fred, it really was never out of the vets hands/ home.I got it off a gun site.the seller had some poor pics of it so I asked for addt'l ones. He sent me a pic of the nagako that I requested.. An hour and a half drive later I had it in hand! I wouldn't let him mail it in fear he would change his mind for the price I got it at... He was a real nice gun dealer very honest down to earth guy.. It came along with a cash of guns purchased from a vet who had passed..I credit the advice from board members and lots of reading enabling me to pick this out from his poor pictures. Now I'm really curious what this blade, in this state of polish is worth??

Thanks Jaques.... Your the best!!
