  1. Thanks Jean I'll have better pictures this week of the Mei
  2. Can anyone confirm the translation of bishu osafune tadamitsuon this?I was able to get it for what I think was a good price. If the translation is correct any ideas of what generation it is or if it's gimei. I'm thinking that someone wouldn't take the time to save the signature if the blade was of low quality?
  3. Can anyone help translate these chisel Mei? Also if anyone with knowledge of Japanese tool steel could give me an idea of the quality etc. that would be greatly appreciated. thank you
  4. Thanks good to know I was able to finally translate a full Mei properly lol..... I was also thinking the 2nd charcter was odd looking. So far I haven't found anything even remotely matching the 2nd charcter
  5. Ok so the patina is a photographic issue and the Nagako is very dirty not taken care of properly. The handle hasn't been off since wwII era, it had a gauze wrapping over the mekugi that what so old it was disengrating. The state of polish is poor, and a few issues I know. What I'm wondering about is the Mei? It looks weak in some places and better cut in others? Also did I translate it correctly
  6. So I think this read Tanba Kami Yoshimichi? If this is correct does it look to be a legitimate Mei to anyone? The blade measures about 15" and is shobu zukuri in shape I believe.

I hear you. I wasn't 100% sure about it being gimei I had hoped there was a chance it wasn't. But I feel any discussion has some value for someone. Maybe not for the seasoned collector but it may have given someone a little insight into collecting dos and dont's

Darcy let me read phrase .... I figured there was a good chance it was gimei fen the get go .... So does that make the thread less point less ?
  9. To me the sword doesn't seem to be old enoug to fit all but one of the Sadatsugu from the link ? Or is the blade older then I think ?

I only take limited chances on swords like the one posted. The seller offered a 14days return policy which allows me time so have the sword in hand for physical evaluation and to ask experienced board members questions about the blade.Subsuquently it was returned to the seller on condition problems.im willing to risk 30.00 shipping to learn and maybe find a good but in a sword every now and then....
  12. Thanks for the conformation. Have you see a two charcter Mei for any smith using Sadatsugu?
  13. Can anyone confirm that this reads sada tsugu? I haven't found any examples of Sadatsugu Mei...

Yes I did a quick search of the Mei and from what little I know and can tell it looked promising. Also Moses Becerra had given a look at it I guess I should try and contact him,I have used his services before....I figure for the price it's worth the gamble plus there is a 14 day return policy which either way I doubt I'll be using lol. This is the closest oshigata I found
