    Feathered Saya?

And thank you all for learning here every single day! Learning gives more room for new questions to arise I understand and agree. For me it is just another pointer towards the significance of the saya and I always like it when an item shows such proof. Thanks for the explanation!

    Feathered Saya?

Thanks all for the explanation! Interesting thought though, to wear a cover to protect the cover Is there an explanation for the fact that typically archers wore them?

    Feathered Saya?

Hi all, I recently acquired the first print mentioned in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10954&p=93043&hilit=gekko#p93043 What i don't understand is that it looks like the saya is made of, or at least covered in, feathers. I recall seeing this before sometime but have no clue to it's use. Was it fashion or did it had a practical reason? Anyone willing and able to enlighten me? Thanks in advance!
  5. Thanks for the tips everyone!! Thomas, can I mention your name when I contact mr. Fujimoto? Sounds like a real good opportunity!
  6. Hi All, After reading this forum and lots of books for about 2 years now, I decided to pursue true knowledge and start posting here I'm a 31 year old enthousiast who lives in Amsterdam (Holland) and I am totally fascinated with Nihonto. As I said, i'm reading everything I can get my hands on for the last 2 years and haven't made my first real purchase yet. Although i've owned a lot of pointy and sharp things during my life, most of them are sold now due to their low quality and collection value. This way I can spend more on building my Nihonto library I feel very privileged, having found such a unique and knowledgable community and hope to experience pleasant and informative times here! After this short introduction, now on to the real question! Does anybody know of any musea, exhibitions or other places in the Netherlands where Nihonto are displayed? I know of the Dutch To-ken society and will join them when I have a little more free time on my hands but I would love to see some real swords after reading so much and scanning through hundreds of webpages. Thanks in advance!
  7. On Dutch Sword messageboards this seller does not have a very good name. I'm not nearly skilled enough to say something about the sword itself, only heard a lot about this seller and none in a good sense.
