Simon, Don't suppose your selling that blade? :D

Unusual mounted Tanto
gtstcactus replied to gtstcactus's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
Thanks for those pictures, it looks like a really nice piece. Much nicer than the ebay auction piece. Your piece I think must have been pretty good quality. -
Hi David, I don't own that tsuba..... It saw it at a 2nd hand shop...... Your tsuba looks great, certainly much better than the piece in the original post...

The cost of NTHK shinsa in Sydney is pretty damn reasonable..... Small price to pay to get an answer...

http://cgi.ebay.com/OLD-Japanese-ANTQUE ... _500wt_922 Were tanto mounted this way in Japan? or is this more likely a chinese special?

Jeez Guys, Chill out take a valium, I was joking..... We've established you guys think it's gimei, I've had opinions both on the gimei and legit unknown side of the fence... Yes it's not in the books people have looked at, maybe it's just someone thats gone under the radar. If it's gimei who's signature is it supposed to be a forgery of? No one you say? because no one signed that way.... Maybe this norimitsu had next to no surviving works left. Now thats a simple explanation.... It will go to shinsa in sydney.
-
So he is saying within the limits of what he has seen....... One can't rule out what he has not seen.... Maybe there was a Norimitsu & Son that lived in relative seclusion who's works have gone unrecorded.Unlikely I know but not impossible..

Yeah Lorenzo for the translations I missed! I'm going to write out an english translation origami to go with the Japanese origami
-
I think I'd like to own one of these! Perhaps for the rarity factor, not sure how great they are to use but I like them! If anyone has any pictures of any kata shinogi katana or even katakiri ba wakizashi I'd love to see them. I tried google and got lots of katana and wakizashi pics but none of that profile. Does anyone know when these first occured or even who fashioned this style of blade?
-
Dirk, That was the site I got much help from..... unfortunately for NBTHK they only go into detail about the Tokubetsu Hozon paper, and one of the old NBTHK papers kitcho I think. That's how I got what I did along with my books....

I can't at the moment, I could try photograph it but my cameras' aren't the best, I used a friends scanner to put it up. I had to miss out the top of the origami and the left hand fold to fit it on my mates scanner..... It looks identical (except photo and text) to the origami another member posted on page 1 of this thread. The photo is in the same place as the origami on page 1. The photo has the "security seal" over part of it. There are 2 water marks ( i think they are water marks) which I only just noticed when holding it to the light. On the left fold at the top there are two Kanji (i think) and an 8 digit number underneath made by dots / holes. I'm pretty sure it's legit... I've been to the origami page linked off here and it stacks up I think.

How common are kata shinogi zukuri blades? I'd never seen or hrard of one until i saw one at the link below http://www.ricecracker.com/japanese_swords/katana/sk15.htm
-
Lorenzo, any chance if you can read it you could tell me the words (techniques) displayed by the tsuba? Just in english, i can find the kanji then and match them off... It might seem pointless to some, but I'd really like to understand the whole paper!

David, Happy to provide a little lite relief!

Suguha hamons - inferior / boring???
gtstcactus replied to gtstcactus's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Well this has turned out to be a constructive thread, I nearly began thinking my like for suguha was misplaced, but now I feel much better about my suguha being among my favouites Even better a thread I started hasn't been hijacked and turned into a S**t fight!!! -
Is there any chance the norimitsu who signed this wakizashi was lazy and left out the date? perhaps he felt this masterpiece was timeless and needed no date....

Here's my effort at translating the Tsuba Origami...... I've been at it for quite a while, I can't seem to find the ones I haven't done. Could someone pehaps grade my effort :D and help me out with the rest....
-
Heres a scan of the NBTHK Hozon Origami for the Tsuba which this thread was started about... If anyone felt would be so kind as to translate it word for word I'd be most greatful!!!!

KM, 1. I have not tried to outwit anyone. 2. Are you a qualified psychiatrist? A medical dotor? If not keep your opinions to yourself. You are less qualified to comment on me and my ADHD than I am to comment on Nihonto. "it's clear to you I don't have ADHD". Show what you know. Quite frankly I don't give a rats if I insult you as you seem to feel free to insult me. 3. When someone tells me a sword isn't as good as I hoped I don't believe just one person, I seek other opinions also.... Just like a 2nd opinion from a doctor/psychiatrist (which I have for my ADHD and confirmed diagnosis). Maybe you should just not post in my threads, you've not once contributed anything useful if I recall right. Just for you I'll post a couple more delightful swords later today!

Part of what attracted me to the sword!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys, I've missed the joke, or just don't get the humour.....
-
i don't require the opinion of the nation... Just someone who members of this board recommended going to for advice.... Maybe you could leave the BS out, and just restrict your posts in this thread to constructive, useful comments...

Reinhard, I'm not going to bother getting into an arguement or debate over this. I buy what I can afford, if it has some sort of appeal to me. I have no great plan to buy low end junk gather info hear and profit from it. I've only sold one sword mounted in koshirae, and one other mounted in bone as that was real junk. I have no plans to sell this norimitsu sword. I like it, and will probably send it to shinsa in sydney. I have quite a few books (not nearly enough), and am constantly aquiring more.... I don't recall complaining about shipping costs about a book but if you say I did then I probably did. Generally shipping doesn't fuss me much at all. I was told to seek opinion of a New Zealand local who is quite knowledgeable, he didn't suggest the scrap heap for it and I value his opinion far more than yours.

Guido, What are you getting at? I'm not trying to be smart, clever or otherwise. I just want to find out about this Norimitsu! When I asked if Jean was stating wakizashi weren't made in the Nambokucho period, David poped in and said "Kodachi (signed tachimei), not wakizashi". I then found in a couiple of my books several wakizashi signed in the katanamei style dating to the Nambokucho... The stuff I found appears to contradict the statement by David (unless I misunderstood what he meant" regardless of them being hira-zukuri, shinog-zukuri or shobu-zukuri!
