  1. I saw that on eBay. Hilarious. Buy first ask questions later is not a good strategy. Books books and more books. Buy a book and (with a little imagination) you own all the swords in it.
  2. The two swords I have bought from Aoi art were drenched in oil. I am very surprised that this conversation is leaning to the use of an oil with unknown properties. Using such a compound on tools used for every day use is worlds apart from protecting Nihonto. I live in Okinawa where humidity is about as high as it can get and I use only pure mineral (a very light coat) oil once a year. Not a spot of rust in sight for 5 years.
  3. I don't see anything on his website or his FB page???
  4. Is this for sale by any chance? If so send me a PM. I will gladly take the chance on shinsa.
  5. Silver koshirae from a wakizashi. Bought from Danny Massey. Every piece has amazing carving all over it. One of my best.

Update on this. I got hung up on by the gentleman. On Musashiya. I even asked him if it was his penmanship on the email I sent. Oh well. I did however find this Norimune in the Nihonto Koza.
  7. I would like to buy 15 and 16 Jim
  8. Widow maker, the very fact that you are even asking such questions show how ready you are to read several books on the subject. Don't buy that sword for cutting practice. Tameshigiri is more about form anyways and you don't need an art sword to do it.

I just found one like mine on eBay. Thanks.

Have you ever seen a razor that says "tamahagane" on it? I was just wondering because have one like that. Not sure how rare it is.
  11. Brian, I was kidding. Of course they are miles apart. But I also very much agree with Pauls observation. I think that being lovers of Japanese art beyond mere amateurs most of us have an appreciation for the understated. The subtle interplay between nature and the Japanese vision of aesthetics draws the aficionado deeper down this vortex of a hobby.
  12. I will buy the echizen tsuba if it does not go to the above interested party. Jim
  13. Evokes the "just learned to color in the lines" feeling.
  14. Hahahahhahahahahahha! That's the spirit!
  15. I have never seen banana menuki. Must be really rare.

That is exactly what I am trying to get to the bottom of. I will post pictures of the front of the papers (yes it's mine) and update this thread after I call him in the morning.

Thanks Guido. I live in Japan and this was purchased here so chances are it was written here. It looks pretty typical for the scrawl employed in most documents I see. Also, as I get older my handwriting gets less beautiful, so maybe this is another reason. Does anyone have an example of these papers?

Has anyone been there? I will give them a call. Are they respected appraisers?

This topic of papers needs more attention than it is getting. Come on nihontonerds lets see a more comprehensive public knowledge emerge from the great NMB egg! The white papers resemble those issued by the Juho Token kenkyukai. Although only one single example is on the Internet!!

Yes. Sorry. Real or Fake? The NBTHK papers I have seen look different and I have never seen JTK papers except one set online.

I am looking to tap the deep well of knowledge here to verify authenticity of some papers. Both swords are free of fatal flaws with all surface details visible. Thanks for any help Jim
  22. I know the video is terrible at showing details. Sorry guys. Jim
