Thank you very much for your time! Now I have some studying to do... Just out of curiosity, what does one do with a blade that is more of just an artifact than a sword of any value? It looks as if it may have been buried for some time due to the depth of the erosion, which probably goes to a depth of a quarter of the blade's thickness..

I just recently came into possession of a katana, which was quite literally in a junk bin. The sword is badly, badly pitted and rusty, and looks as if someone tried to polish the blade and also polished the nakago. This is the first old blade I have acquired and unfortunately it is probably nothing more than a wallhanger at best due to it's condition. I am very anxious to learn whatever history I can about this piece.. I have spent hours in the pdf tables trying to decipher it but have had absolutely no luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance....
