  1. Hi, Thanks to all who have helped. I am going to have this restored. Any suggestions on where work should be done? I had a saya done years ago from Fred Lohmann and have seen another site with Moses Beccera but not sure about their restoration work. No disrespect intended to them. Will post some other pictures with side panels and how they attach later. Best Regards, John
  2. Hi Mark, Pictures are hard to see. Found one very similar. I think you have it. Thank you. Took another and enlarged a bit. Regards, John

  5. Hi, I found this last week and had never seen anything like this before, so I had to have it. Contemplating having this restored and looking to see what others have to say. Do not have much into it but being unusual to me I would like to have it brought back to its glory if some of you think it is worthwhile. Never seen iron panels on a tsuka like this before and the dragons are finely detailed. Many of you probably have seen this. Blade is signed but the kissaki is broken.. The nagasa measures 11 3/4 inches so I believe it is a long tanto. The kamon(Mogami) are 22kt gold(tested) and has two on saya that are silver. Regards, John
  6. Hi, Thank you for the help Steve. I was way off. Much appreciated. Regards, John

  15. Hi All, For a while I have noticed some certain sellers buying under different names then reselling under another. I have noticed very fine lines where they have been resurfaced and then offered for resale. In a matter of a couple weeks. Notice blade before 122470419721( sale of blade) and just listed resurfaced 222522101599. I know it is not proper to comment on live auctions, but I did it for comparrison. What is being done to the blade for resale? The sad part is an unsuspecting buyer will not know that it was resurfaced and purchase it. I will not call it a polish because it is not. Thought this was a topic people might like. Regards, John
  16. Hi Ben, It does read Takai Sadatsugu he was rated Chu-ge saku. Best Regards, John
  17. Hi Tom, Your blade was made by Nagamitsu. I suspect it is Kawasaki Nagamitsu who made it. Regards, John

Came back with a veterans estate I had bought a while back. Best Regards, John
  19. Hi All, Hoping someone would be kind enough to help translate this shirasaya for me. This one is way over my head and any help would be appreciated. Best Regards, John
  20. Hi, I believe it reads Bishu Osafune Sukesada. Regards, John
  21. Hi, I have brought the shirasaya back from the dead and has the date as Tembun. Turned out very well. Kept the papers you mentioned Steve. Will get a new shiraysaya made as suggested. I really enjoyed the link to the read about Mayajidake Jinja(Thank you Steve). Learned something new. Well I should say, still have a lot to learn. Will post a photo of shirasaya later. Best Regards, John
  22. Hi, John, Uwe, Guido, and Steve thank you much again for you help. I was stumped by date and and new it was either Tensho or Tembun. Will take tape off. It is in decent shape with some areas of darkening. Here are a couple picture. Regards, John
  23. Hi All, I am pretty sure this is made by Bishu Osafune Sukesada. I am having a hard time deciphering the date on this so any help would be appreciated. Another question is many years ago someone used scotch tape to hold the saya together. It is in decent shape if it were removed. Would you approach this or leave it. Second: There is a tag on the saya also. Is this an old registration tag? Any help to the approach taken with this one would be welcome. Best Regards, John
  24. Hi Lev, Your sword reads Kiyonobu. Regards, John
  25. Hi Ed, Just pulled two out that are the same as yours, both appear stainless and have a straight hamon as yours. Regards, John
