  1. For some reason the omote image did not download
  2. Can anyone identify this kakihan from a hirazogan tsuba please. It is not in Joly's Shosankenshu
  3. Can anyone confirm the translation of this mei on a fuchi kashia set. I read it as Chishiki Kanenao is this correct. Also I need some info about the maker beyond the name. Joly provides a Chishiki Kanenori and Chishiki Kaneyasu(oki) but no Kanenao. Help please. Keith OJ 314.doc

    What do you see?

Hi If you are interested in finding the story of Kajiwara Kagesuye and Sasaki Takatsuna its in Joly's "Legend in Japanese Art". The book is available to read on line. Page 150 item 393 Kagesuye. Hope this helps Keith
  5. Hi Ludolf Thanks again, much appreciated. Keith
  6. Hi John You have to some extent confirmed my own feelings about this tsuba. The mei is not clear I thought it most probably read Denjo but it did not seem right. The style is very definitely his, but the nanako is uneven. Thanks Keith
  7. Hi Chuck One of the problems of looking at Hikonebori work is that when it was popular the craftsmen of Aizu created many rather less well crafted tsuba to get in on the market. You have to be certain that you are looking at genuine work from Goshu. The best work of Soheishi Nuydo Soten is of a high standard and uses that love of the assymetric seen so much in Eastern art. You might like to look up one of Soten II's pupils, Kaneishi Nomura Kanenori, who worked also in kinko metal. I've attached 2 tsuba one by Soten and another by Kanenori.
  8. Hi everyone I have one more problem that needs a solution. The tsuba here is very much in the Goto Denjo style, like those in the Field Collection but the mei is difficult. I've looked through the Shosankenshu and found nothing, even using the kakihan. I hope someone can help. Keith
  9. Thanks a lot to everyone. I know there is usually someone out there who has a relevant reference. Thanks again Keith
  10. Tsuba OJ 289 begins character 1 Tsune character 2 sho or sei? This is a really puzzling problem any help is welcome Keith
  11. Hi You can compare the mei with the illustration of a Goto Denjo tsuba in the book "Japanese Sword Mounts in the Collection of the Field Museum". Information is on page 63 and there is an illustration plate XIII. The book is available on line. Keith alias Ozza
  12. Hi everyone I'm having difficulty identifying a kakihan. I've looked all through Joly's "Shosankenshu" with no luck. However it might be there its just I have somehow missed it. I'm attaching images of the tsuba with its kakihan.
