Hi Brian, I just bought a wakizashi ( viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9332 ) of somebody who also has this particular sword he is unsure if he'll keep it...and has realistic (based on my limited judgement) expectations money wise...I'm not in the position to buy it...but if anybody else is interested I could always forward details etc.... But on a general basis...would it help and is there a way that I can delete pics in my own posting after a while? I am aware that I often give in to the temptation to post rather too many than too little pics to paint a realistic picture... Give me a guideline and I'll stick with it. Thanks heaps. Jock

Hi Steve, I have to disagree....I'm but a novice when it comes to nihonto, but I have collected knives acutally custom made knives for more than 30 years....I know about lamination/damascus/sanmei etc etc...but only with tempered blades have I come across a real temperline...please excuse my limitations in getting pics that show appropriately the temperline etc I can see in this blade....if my ability to take pics would be better you would have to agree on this one. I'd appreciate any link that could educate somebody like me to present his objects better in pic form. Jock

Hi, Just wanted to share some interesting pics....showing a differentially tempered knife.....wondered if this was done by a WW2 smith after the occupation or who would create things like that? Are these common? Thanks heaps for the feedback. Jock

Sorry Grey, That's what I meant...proffessional trained polisher in Japan....sorry for the misunderstanding.. Jock
-
....thanks John - just out of curiosity....how does a professional smith/polisher fix such a problem? Wouldn't that involve certain "heat-treatment" too? Regards, Jock

Hi Kevin, ....thanks heaps...that makes sense...would be difficult to disguise.. Jock

Hi, I have a koto? katana....a bullet went through the tsuka and damaged the nakago...it hit it exactly where the hole is and cracked it - the nakago has a crack from the middle (hole) to the outside - in other words it is only attached at the bit above the hole....(I will provide a pic later) ...my question is how this can be fixed? I don't want to be killed mentioning welding...but that is the only thing that came to mind...appreciate any opinion... Thanks heaps. Jock

Hi Mark, Thanks heaps for the input....may I ask what/how/why = "Japanese did not think that highly of Bungo blades" Regards, Jock

...I don't want to be paranoid...just noticed the darker area between the blade and the nakago....but I haven't seen what a add-on nakago looks like....just getting educated... Thanks heaps! Jock

Hi, I came across this sword and wondered if the nakago has been welded on later....saw a posting with that subject on the board...or if this is genuine? Thanks.. Jock

Hi, Just wondered about this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/Japanese-Raden-copp ... 19c23c3a0b It appears to me to be very short...I thought that these were a lot longer? Regards, Jock
-
...I'll try to scan the nakago .....if it works out I'll post another pic....please ignore the strange colours as I played with the paint program to "lift" the kanji out..... Jock

Hi, Just wondering if anybody knows if there is a website somewhere in the internet that shows different style/design of fuchi / menuki etc that can be used to look up / compare ones possessions to establish the where/when etc... Hope I expressed myself in a way that can produce answers.... Jock
