  1. Thanks for the info, I decided to pass on it.
  2. Hello everyone, I was hoping that you guys may help me out translating the mei of a sword I am looking at buying. So far I have come up with: "Bizen no kuni ju..." I can't get the rest though. There is a lot of activity going on with the hamon, it looks like a suriage Bizen (Sue-Bizen?) work to me. Seller says it's a 24 inch blade, these are the best pictures I could get. Any info or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. --Richard.
  3. Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I have logged on. A friend at work inherited a small stout Japanese blade from his late father, it has a signature on it, and I was hoping someone could translate it please. Thanks, Rich.
  4. Got it in hand today, measurements are: 6.3cm x 5.5cm x 0.5cm. The fukurin appears to be made of silver. Started on rust removal, it's going to take a while though. Seems like there is also a lot of a wax type of build up around the inlay. Rich R.
  5. Thanks for the information guys, I fixed the pics.. Is it better to leave the rust as-is on a piece like this? Ill put up more pictures when I have it on hand. Rich R.
  6. Hello everyone, it has been a while since I posted, but my interest in Nihonto/Tosogu has been renewed. I know some about Nihonto, but not a lot about Tosogu. I found a Tsuba I really liked online, so I took the jump and bought it. I was wondering what you guys could tell me about it, like the era, school ets... like I said I know virtually nothing on the Tosogu side of collecting. I just bought it today, so it's not in my hands yet, so I am using the seller's pictures for now. Thanks for any information at all! Rich R.
  7. Reminds me of this http://www.sanmei.com/Pictures/Sword/N6 ... 0_PUP1.jpg rich r.
  8. That is actually a Marshal's badge, looks like a reproduction too. See here for more info: http://p2.hostingprod.com/@imperialjapa ... halls.html rich r.
  9. No, the two bottom characters was cut more professionally. rich r.
  10. I wish I could scan it, but it does not belong to me and I only saw it while visiting family out of state. Rich r.
  11. This sword has been in my family for a long time, it is machine made and has a Nagoya inspection stamp. Unfortunately I had no camera at the time, so I tried my best to copy the signature. Signed tachi mei Signature: http://img197.imageshack.us/f/signatureuq.jpg/ Date: http://img571.imageshack.us/f/71551089.jpg/ Thanks, rich r.
  12. I think the swords produced mid-war with iron fuchi didn't have stamps. rich r.

    Old blade?

It is hard to make out the hamon, I might bring it home with me on Saturday and post more pics. Also there are no seki/showa/star stamps on this one. Edit- After playing around with the photos in photoshop I have to say the sword has a suguha hamon. rich r.

    Old blade?

Does anybody have info on this smith? I tried finding information about him but nothing came up. any info would be appreciated. Thanks Rich r.
  15. Any idea on what it says? http://img99.imageshack.us/i/pix2347916500.jpg/ http://img266.imageshack.us/i/pix2347916578.jpg/ Thanks Rich r.
  16. Can anyone translate this please? And any opinions on the blade? Reminds me of Damascus steel in chinese fakes. 16 inches total with a 11 5/8 cutting edge. http://img15.imageshack.us/i/bspe0qegkk ... evpvp.jpg/ http://img26.imageshack.us/i/bspeowwkkg ... vbp0p.jpg/ http://img98.imageshack.us/i/bspeicqcwk ... kmevo.jpg/ http://img100.imageshack.us/i/bspeqfwcw ... kevev.jpg/ http://img299.imageshack.us/i/bspescqcg ... jeevv.jpg/ http://img697.imageshack.us/i/bspeuymkk ... evppq.jpg/ http://img130.imageshack.us/i/bspevngcg ... oevcl.jpg/ Rich r
  17. Ok, after a while of handling the nakago some of the heavy red rust started to recede off one of the kanji, that was previously un-readable to me. Just wanting to reaffirm, does this still translate to "Kiku Ichimonji Minamoto Kanemori saku"? http://img72.imageshack.us/i/scan0024u.jpg/ Thanks, Rich R.
  18. 20.5 inches overall (I think, ill ask him again though), sadly it has no saya. Probably an old WWII bringback.
  19. I don't know how much material is left, the seller dosen't know much about swords and it is far away so I can't see it in person, its not a lot of money, below $100. I think ill wait a few more days for more opinions before I buy it. Rich r.
  20. Restoration, can it be done on this old waki I am considering getting? The blade seems rather pitted/rusty. http://img214.imageshack.us/i/rest1.jpg/ http://img72.imageshack.us/i/75475426.jpg/ http://img13.imageshack.us/i/70414910.jpg/ I know it is not wise financially and there is no profit, but they are pieces of history. Just wondering if it would even be possible. Thanks Rich r.
  21. Thank you very much, great information. rich
  22. Thanks guys, it probably dosent matter, but just thought I would add that I was the 1st person in 60+ years to ever see and handle the nakago.
  23. Yes the blade was in type 98 gunto mounts. Total length from tip of kissaki tip to munemachi is 26.5 in.
  24. Ok, I have found a Kanemori that contains kanji letters in the first post (Sorry im not that great with kanji) Do you think this could be him? http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/KAN166 Only reason im unsure is that there is another blade signed the same way: http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread ... +ichimonji The above smith made showato, but mine is a traditional blade and has no painted stocking numbers on the tang. And different file marks it looks like too, looks like Takanoha? Could they be different smiths or the same guy? rich r.
