  1. All I see is a little skull and crossbones. ?? John
  2. I am indeed saddened by this. Paul was one of those guys you thought would be around holding court forever. Condolences to the family. His shadow will be felt. John
  3. I like the idea of the daisho 5+3 thing. Why do you relegate this tsuba as to only Soten? Are there not other schools you could attribute or has it been judged so by one of the groups. John
  4. It seems 70% is a magic number in Thailand. I don't think the blue will affect anything. There is isopropyl around with blue colour. John Thai isopropyl.jfif
  5. Interesting treatment. I can't see what you posted between the two texts. Black on black maybe. John
  6. Bronze castings have a whole set of rules that determine the range expected by any specific piece. EG., date cast, including if contemporary to the artists life, size, some sizes command a premium, artist ID, what foundry, subject matter, patina, number of castings made (limited-moulds broken). All that and the critical thing, is it especially worthy of merit. John
  7. John is absolutely correct, as is Barry. You can't repaint the Sistine Chapel. John
  8. I import often and never was asked for my number. It is just too easily abused. John
  9. I assume you mean 32.5 sen koku and 31.5 sen koku. John
  10. Most I've seen protrude just a little, really so as not to impede Nuki. The Kogatana is not drawn out, but, slid out by the dexter thumb and then the Kozuka grasped. John
  11. How odd it is that black powder weapons are unregulated for the most part here, no license, while the country that made gunnery and volley fire an artform suffer draconian regulation. John
  12. You know what I'd really like to see, Piers? Speed firing (say 3 rounds) or targets competitions. Much more satisfying I'd think than shooting blanks, at least for the onlookers when allowed. John
  13. I was hooped by them. My bid price took home the kozuka I wanted, but, not to me. A Tsuba I bid on went double, 2400 Euro, unreasonable I think. John

    Ito color?

White maki reminds me of mourning. In fact, when a lord has their funeral march all tsuka are over-wrapped in white cloth. You may see this on the miniature display at the Meijijingu. John
  15. I would hesitate calling them Daisho, more than likely same hand, but, together only serendipitously. John
  16. Most inane excuse of the month. BTW, that kogai I mentioned earlier; I was notified I had not won it even though my reserve was the one posted. as hammer price WTF John
  17. Auctions are frustrating. I checked an auction in Austria today and a waki-Goto kogai I bid on met my reserve of 1100 Euro No notice yet, did someone preceed me. Frustrating, for sure. John
  18. Looks like Japanese Honeysuckle. John
  19. When you look at the characteristics of the plate , does it not give a distinct impression of commonality of steel and working of the blank? It certainly leads to Nobuie, Kaniye amd YKB being made by a group of imitators meeting a commercial demand. John
  20. It is a great exemplar in very good condition. Well worth the price. John
  21. Wonderful, I posit 'order and chaos' as what I envision. John
  22. The standard Romaji would be Kanemoto. As it is rendered syllabically Kanamoto in this case is just what happens with transliteration of foreign languages. John
  23. Yes, it does, but, alone it doesn't normally exist, being representative to 水
  24. Does anyone have an explanation for the phantom tobiaki like anomaly? John
  25. Good for you. They will make people jump through so many hoops that they give up. Standard legal process. Give Mazie a call too, big gun or is that shogun, haaaaa. John
