Hi Marco Yes , the oshigata on the left is shodai and the one on the right is signed Echizen Kuni ju which I thought was Shodai as well as I have only found references to Nidai signing Yamato Daijo. as you can see from the picture they are nothing like mine.. You never know mine could be Gimei.. Ian

Gentlemen & Ladies I have a Wakizashi signed Yamato Daijo Fujiwara Kanenori, I can find some information on him but not much..... I know this is Ni-Dai Kanenori and his father (Shodai) was Echizen ju Chikugo no Kami Fujiwari Kanenori, my problem is I am unable to find any Oshigata in my limited library to compare with mine.. Hopefully someone can help. Thank you in advance.. Ian PS Hope the picture comes through o/k

Good evening all. I have been trying to translate a blade for a friend ... Omote— Hattori Tantojo Yoriyoshi Saku.... Ura — Tame ? ? ? ? I’m at a complete loss with the last four characters.... Could someone please put me out of my misery.. Many thanks Ian

Back again, Gentlemen whilst a lot of us are getting bored I thought I would push my luck in asking for help again on a tanto I have, it is signed:- Yamashiro no Kuni Ishido Suketoshi...... there is hardly any information on this smith and I was wondering if anyone can help. Take care.. Ian

Hi Ken Unfortunately I don't own the blade, a friend has it and the Nakago is in poor condition and the Mei only partly showing, can only read Tosa ? ? ? ? Munetake. I will get a picture from him and see if anyone else can make more sense from it. The reason I put it as (no Suke Tachibana) is that he is the only one using that unusual TAKE character although the remnants of the missing characters don't seem to match........... I will post the picture as soon as I receive it. Ian

Hi Robert I have come across marks on the Mune of the tang on old pre-war blades and was led to believe they were polisher marks. if you had several polishers working together (school) etc you can keep track of who polished what? Only what I have been informed in the past. Ian

Hi Ken I didn’t buy the blade because of the signature, I’ve been studying blades since the mid 70s, this waki was purchased without removing the Tsuka purely because it screamed Yokoyama school and the Koshirae was in good condition. I consider this as a Gimei but I have not been able to answer the other two options due to lack of information that’s why I have asked the members .

After following discussions on this group I thought Gimei is the most used term when discussing signatures, Only Joking , the way that the signature is cut is so different to the Shodai.. Ian

Gentlemen I know I have asked this question before but had no results so here’s hoping.. I have a Wakizashi signed Bizen Osafune Yokoyama Sukenaga, the blade shows all the workmanship for Sukenaga but the signature is nothing like, I believe the shodai did sign this six character signature in his early years but cannot find an example also there was a Nidai and I’ve not been able to find an example of his... my question is do you think this is just a Gimei, early Shodai or Nidai... How to post antique blades in the uk?
wakiboy replied to Worfieldlg's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I would never give Parcel Force a sword and tell them what it is...... it’s like giving candy to a child.... I would not trust them, how many have gone missing through them? There’s no comeback on them. I always use a third party (Parcel Monkey) or have a day out on the train. Ian -
Thank you Moriyama for your quick reply, I was way off the mark. Ian

I can normally navigate my way around a signature but this one has me stumped, yes I can get KUNIMASU but the other side is a blur... all I can is :- Suke ? Kami ? Masa Kitae Kore Wo.... please put me out of my misery. Ian Sorry for the poor quality pictures.
