Hi Piers Thanks for the reply, I’m hoping to get more photos when he gets it, I’ve never seen shumei on a gun before and I’m curious as to what it says/means. Ian

Hi John I asked him for a picture under the Habaki and he said there is nothing except dark greasy marks.
-
Brendon I like your theory 😂😂

I agree on all counts but my friend only told me about it after he picked it up, the problem I have is that I don’t understand it being faked while the war was still ongoing.

Hi H what do you think the reason would be for the engraving when the blade was made in =1942, too early to be a forgery ?
-
Gentlemen A friend has recently acquired a blade signed Yoshihisa with a Seki stamp and dated 1942 it has an engraving of what he thought was a Minatogawa Jinja but the engraving varies at the bottom and I can’t find any info on a Minatogawa smith off that name…. Your opinion would be most appreciated.. Thank you Ian

John Looks like it’s back to the books, the blade is not mine and so will have to wait until my friend brings it to me, will let you know more when I’ve seen it 👍 Ian

I agree Steve regarding the character for Hiro but Sesko’s book does not show the standard character for Hiro and considering I can’t find any reference to a later smith I have nothing else to go on, that’s why I have been asking for help, it’s giving me a headache 👍 Ian

Hi Oli Thanks for the information, there is only one that came from (Hitachi) so he is the best contender so far…. HIROCHIKA (弘近), An´ei (安永, 1772-1781), Musashi – “Jōyō Suifu-jū Hozumi Hirochika” (常陽水府住穂積弘近), he came originally from Hitachi province but moved later to Edo, Thanks Ian
