Hi bruno, I have several but they were taken in super high res. I am usually taking pics of very small items in detail and forgot to change the setting. When I resize to usable 1200 X800 there is nothing left of the pic. I may see the owner soon and will not make the same mistake. He is willing to sell but at a (I feel) very high price . Do you have a blade from this smith? I will see what I can do to get some pics for you, PeterD

As usual the board amazes me! My sincere thanks to george and Chris. Morita-san, a special thank you for your knowledge and the way you make your additions to the pictures. It is a most welcome addition to my files as I am sure to so many others. One question, I have been looking on the net and found several other blades with the "made this sword by master Suzuki Shoun's order" addition to the mei which supports the martial arts master idea rather than a single sword order. My question is: Is there any additional importance to this blade having a Hot stamp? None of the others had it. Once again, Thanks to You all PeterD

Hello All, I came across this gendai blade today. It has a 14 kanji mei and a well executed hot stamp. It has a very active and somewhat bazar hamon and a bright and stong mokume hada that almost looks like a cheep chinese damascus fake but this blade is no fake. Can anybody help. I took the pics in high res by mistake but can email them if you would like to see more. I tried to reduce them but the mei is so tight and small that it just gets lost. Sure would like to know what you all think, PeterD

Hello, my read on this tsuba is heianjo edo period tsuba. The twistwire inlay is done in the/ a traditional manner shown by the loss areas. Q: is there a fukurin? I looks like it to me. All in all not a bad looking heianjo tsuba. From the mouths of babes, Cheers, PeterD

Can anyone please elaborate on the term "drawn in" Are we talking about an acid etched hamon or are there other ways to forge/ fake a hamon excluding the really obvious ones like media blast and stoned in? Thanks PeterD

Hi Walter, I believe your wakizashi reads "Bishu osafune Yukihisa" and signed Tachi-mei? For me (a novice) this is strange. I am working on the rest but dont have it yet. I am sure someone can enlighten us both. hope this helps, PeterD

Hi Grey, The set I have is the third 1998 "Commemorative centenary edition" When I purchased it there was a letter from Mr Hawleys daughter stating that it was the very last set she had. Possiby this is the reason for the page loss although I am quite sure she would not have known. It is book 1, "A-N" pages 213 & 214 I hope you can help and Thanks, PeterD

Hello Dweber, The ground texture of the seppa-dai (vertical scratches) together with the bubble pits and the cast look to the mei (rather than cut with a chisel) suggest a modern cast replica tsuba. Also there is no evidence of this tsuba having ever been fitted to a sword. Look for finning where the mold would have been split apart . That should help as they are rarely well removed. good luck, PeterD

looks like kanehisa to me.

It looks like it was held in a vise and bent cold. I dont see any change in patina that would indicate heating. Thats my 2 cents worth, (and probable value) PeterD

Mark,Chris and morita-san, Thank you for the superfast response. I had felt that UYO could be correct but decided not because my understanding was that if one kanji is in ON, then they all should be. This is from the book "Japanese art signatures"? Ill go back and reread. Dont know how I missed seki on the second one----noviceitus Out of respect for the board rules, I will likely be selling the showato as my interest is with nihonto/tosogu. Hello All, I am a little stumped by these 2 mei. The first, I believe it is ?,? ju yoshihisa. can anyone fill in the top 2 kanji. Is it Shizu aki? & what would it mean? The blade is dated " showa jyu hachi nen jyu gatsu" (oct 1944) It is a gendaito . I believe it was made by the rikugun jumei tosho (star stamp) Sato Yoshihisa but not completely sure. The second is ? ju kane uji saku. Once again the top 2 kanji elude me. It is a showato Any help is appreciated. Sincerely PeterD
