Ed, What is often called an 'archer's helmet' because of the hinged fukigayeshi, although why make both of them hinged? The use of kylin as decoration is unusual, but that may be an Edo enhancement. Having said that, it was more normal during the Edo period to engrave the outline of the design before applying the gold and silver. I could go with Momoyama as well.
