Rei Sinn Posted August 21, 2019 Report Posted August 21, 2019 Hello again! I came across another finding at a recent gun show with a beautiful signed fuchi. The Fuchi depicts a samurai riding on a rather ambitious looking horse, equipped with a sword, arrowsand gear while yielding a flag of the family mon. I was impressed by the meticulous amount of crafted detail! Wondering if anyone on the forums might believe if the fuchi is authentic or not, and if anyone might have more information on it. I'm also not entirely sure who the signature belongs to. Many thanks guys! Quote
Surfson Posted August 21, 2019 Report Posted August 21, 2019 Without study it looks like it was a nice fuchi that had the shakudo patina stripped off in a strange way, possibly through chemical treatment. It looks like Soten work, but the signature is not typical and I can't translate it without access to my books. Maybe others can help. 1 Quote
Henry Wilson Posted August 21, 2019 Report Posted August 21, 2019 The fuchi theme is from the Tale of Heike, chapter entitled Battle on the Bridge. It depicts Ashikaga Tadatsuna on horse and the planks of the broken bridge over Uji River. Suggestion: If the original pics were rotated 90* they would be easier to study. 1 Quote
Guido Posted August 21, 2019 Report Posted August 21, 2019 濱堅直親(花押)Hamano Naochika (kaō) Looks more like shibuichi than shakudō to me. 1 Quote
