RichardP Posted April 4, 2019 Report Posted April 4, 2019 Hello All, This just popped up on my local Craigslist—never seen gunto mounts with a tsunagi and I wonder where the blade is living now? Anyway, the leather looks good to me but I am very ignorant of all things gunto. Is this a Type 98? Is it an example worthy of scooping up ($200), or would you all give it a pass? I’ve been looking for similar examples online, but have had a hard time finding gunto koshirae that doesn’t include a blade as well... Thank you! Richard Quote
Mark Posted April 4, 2019 Report Posted April 4, 2019 not a very nice tsunagi and mounts are not high quality but for $200 it is fine, it is worth a bit more 1 Quote
Dave R Posted April 4, 2019 Report Posted April 4, 2019 Gunto mounts with a tsunagi turn up all the time on Ebay. If the blade is non traditional it has to be destroyed, so the mounts are left behind. In the other case, the blade is traditional and now lives in a shirasaya. Quote
RichardP Posted April 4, 2019 Author Report Posted April 4, 2019 Gotcha... Thank you, Dave & Mark! Quote
ChrisW Posted April 5, 2019 Report Posted April 5, 2019 The leather looks pretty decent (its usually first to go on these). I'd get it. Quote
