These days i read often from things from the battleship nagato.

Here is a Kai Gunto Minatogawa Blade worn by the captain from the Battleship Nagato.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/SA40-Japanese-Samurai-Sword-IJN-Navy-Kaigunto-Minatogawa-Masatada-65-0-CM/143007924057?hash=item214befbf59:g:f1oAAOSwteFb5joe

I wonder there where hundreds of ships. Battleships, carrier, cruisers, destroyer and submarines. But i read mostly of the nagato. Where are all the other kai gunto?

And is it possible that the captain of a important surrender ship has his sword bring back to Japan?

Hi Chris,

Can’t tell you something about battleships and where all the other kai gunto swords are but I do know where two kai-gunto swords are ;-)

Best regards,

Ed

I saw that post too, Chris.

The captain listed was not on the Nagato long,

Hayakawa Mikio (1894-1945)

1943-8-2   Commander, BB Nagato 1943-11-1 Rear admiral   1943-12-15   Commander, Destroyer Squadron 2 1944-11-11 Vice admiral Killed in action

Maybe he had a different sword made for every time he was transferred? Maybe the Nagato had a special place in his heart? Maybe its one big ebay scam. (I don't know if the mei actually says "Minamogawa Jinja Masatada" and on the reverse "1943, worn by Hayakawa Mikio, Captain of Battleship Nagato.")

It just seems like a strange wording "worn by" instead of "made for" or something more fancy. Maybe it is a translation issue. Just throwing out some ideas.

Nice ones Ed.

Thanks Matt. There where a lot of surrender ships from the Japanese Navy.

The Kai Gunto in the ebay offer looks genuine to me. The chip is very deep and ugly. The sword is nice.

This is from the same seller that just sold a Gunto signed by Yamashita (tiger of Malay) and the fake imperial gift yasumitsu? Ehh. I’d precede with caution but it’s still a nice sword

Left picture is the ebay auction

Really scary how many faked wartime gendaito came on ebay these days.

I was not sure of the smith either but liked the sword anyway, got lucky if it's authentic, very nice Kai Gunto if it isn't: win/win for me. When it arrives I will inspect it closer and see if the signature matches Oshigata.

Fake Masatada again.  100% Gimei    :o  :bang:

What is wrong with that seller.

Good to have the Wallinga book.

Compare the mei with that other masatada what was sold. It is the same false mei.

I think Komonjo has gimei guy on hand.
