Steve Waszak Posted March 3, 2018 Report Posted March 3, 2018 With all the talk of early brass in some of our tosogu threads, most of the focus in on brass inlay, but one doesn't come across solid brass tsuba so often. On offer here is a sword guard that I believe would date to the Momoyama Period. A landscape scene is depicted as the subject, in what I think is an appealing folk expression (i.e. the workmanship is not aimed at superfine detail and refinement). The color of the brass is beautiful (photos really don't capture this). Size is 72.5 mm x 4mm thick. $950 plus any applicable paypal fees. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers, Steve
Steve Waszak Posted March 7, 2018 Author Report Posted March 7, 2018 Quick amendment: The material I'd thought was brass (and still may be) may actually be bronze...or even a subspecies of yamagane. The brighter yellow evident here and there on the plate appears quite brass-like, so it may indeed be that the material is brass, but I just can't tell for sure, so I wanted to amend my post accordingly. Cheers, Steve
Steve Waszak Posted March 15, 2018 Author Report Posted March 15, 2018 Weekend price drop: $500. Seriously, this is a bargain price for this tsuba. PM me with any questions... Cheers, Steve
