PhoenixDude Posted May 27, 2017 Report Posted May 27, 2017 Anyone have any insight on this kabutowari? Any guess on when it was made? Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 With that one photo it is hard to say. If it is not one of the thousands of fakes, (perhaps 9/10 are younger than Meiji), then it could well be over 130 years old. Might be nice to get a tsuka maki wrap done and add a tassel. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted May 28, 2017 Report Posted May 28, 2017 Jay, few of the real ones that I've seen are single-piece. Mine has the tsuka wrapped in leather, a small tsuba & habaki, & the tassel that Piers mentions. So my guess is that yours is a Meiji or later cast version. Take a look at http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/7229-tekkan-or-tetsuken-with-kurikata/page-2for more info from 6 years ago. Ken Quote
