Marius Posted January 31, 2017 Report Posted January 31, 2017 An iron guard from the Edo period, signed Nobuie. Of course not the famous Nobuie, but one of the masters who signed "Nobuie" and who worked in the Edo period. According to Mr. Haynes there were quite a few such tsubako in the Edo period: Kaga Nobuie, Myochin Nobuie, or the last Nobuie who worked in Sanshu Okazaki ju, in the Mikawa provionce 1750-1800. I leave it to the buyer to find it out. This is a very good quality tsuba that stands out among numerous copies. The iron is very well forged, with a "molten", glossy look, and some tekkotsu at the rim. The turtle shell motif is well executed. I attach a picture from the 1981 book "Nobuie Tsuba" by Ida. measuremenets will follow. SOLD, thank you
