Just thought you folks would enjoy seeing the early katana with shikomizue i purchased, guessing the shikomizue is from meiji period somewhere 1876-1900 im guessing?seems to be better quality than most you see with a horn tip. you can go to the translation section to view the full posting, cheers,Jeremy scott.

Very nice, Jeremy. Our sword club had a small exhibition of shikomizue a few months ago, & I was really surprised at how bad some of the blades were. I can at least see a small part of the hamon on yours. Good find.

thank you hoanh for your comment. Ken... yes i agree most swords you see in these mounts were not high end swords or even considered mid level at best. This one is an interesting example as it seems to be at least from the muromachi period or earlier possibly, well made and had a professional polish. the thread i posted in the translation section gets into deeper detail but the mei on it is very hard to read , could be hiromitsu,kanemitsu,kagemitsu... something along those lines, it has been mentioned it could be Yamato work with the raised wide shinogi it has,, who knows?? one thjing is for sure though. its a decent better than average sword, early sword, that at the time of ban ( 1876) a individual person and quite possibly a well regarded samurai fitted this early sword to these mounts ,,,,, cheers, Jeremy scott.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one, unless your post is really relevant and adds to the topic..
